the DR-701D as my backup recorder.
On our next mission, the unit’s gang
trim feature will be especially useful for that production, as it groups
the four XLR inputs with a one-knob
gain control to maintain the same
accurate levels on all four inputs
for ambisonic microphones, which
is crucial for IMAX 12.1 surround
sound integration for large-format,
dome, or giant screens.
I will be capturing 3D audio
with the Sennheiser AMBEO VR microphone at NASA’s Poker Flat Alaska Research Center. The DR-701D
will be our 3D audio recorder for the
project, and we will be using two
units, each with its own AMBEO microphone in different positions and
capture forms. We will also be evaluating the gear’s performance and
behavior by doing temperature tests
at - 20 degrees Fahrenheit. We will
document this data as research and
development for future circumpolar
