play out, his theatre background,
and having all of these amazing ac-
tors. The suicide scene is long. We
did have more cut-up versions. I did
have a lot of coverage for that. The
most emotional part of the scene
is when Lee pulls the trigger and
then you realize that he actually did
mean it. The more you cut, it felt
like you were taking away from that
awful moment.”
The film’s namesake also served
as a location during principal pho-
tography. “It’s called Manchester by
the Sea and Kenny wanted to have
the town. You feel a sense of place.
He loved that these guys worked in
the boating industry and were men
of the sea. He loved all of that. The
movie begins and ends on the ocean.
We did have some coverage there
but we figured, ‘Let everyone see
them in their element.’”
“We worked out of Technicolor
PostWorks in New York and I did
it on Avid Media Composer,” states
Lame. “Kenny knows how to use
the Avid, so we would do different
things, swap and tweak each other.
Besides that, it was a typical work-
flow. I’m used to working on Final
Cut. This was my second Avid job.”
During production, scenes were shot
mostly in consecutive order. “They
had a lot of scenes to shoot in a
small amount of time and did such
a great job, but I remember feeling
anxiety. The flashbacks often felt
overwhelming. ‘Are people going to
