Production mixer John Midgley’s cart setup
little bits and pieces that Scott wanted to use, especially in the operating
theater, like jazz music.
Tell us all about your cart setup
and mixing gear. Did you need
any special gear outside of your
normal setup?
JM: I used Zaxcom Devas and a Yamaha 01V96i board. On the Hong Kong
set, because it rolled back in time,
they were often shooting things that
would then be destroyed. It’s difficult
to explain, because it goes through a
period of time, then backward, and
then forward. In terms of the set, we
stopped off at one end, and then the
set was destroyed behind us, but we
were still shooting the same way.
So I had about 200 yards to cover
both ways on radio mics. We had
quite a large setup, and we tried to
position ourselves in the middle. We
were running cables out both ways,
so we were using multi-cord cables
to stretch out the radio receivers in
both directions. It was slightly different, and it was like we were treating it more like an outside broadcast
as opposed to a film shoot.
Can you tell us about the micro-
phones you used?
JM: In that particular case, I had
something like 10 radio receivers on
one end of the street and 10 doubled
up at the other end, and often had
some in the middle. Boom wise, I
use a mixture of Sennheiser and
