telligible. When you have rain and
wind, and when people are far away
from the cameras, all of that makes
it challenging — but I love the chal-
lenge,” says O’Leary.
O’Leary works from his home
studio in Oakdale, New York, which
features a Pro Tools 10 rig running
on a Mac Mini with dual monitors.
To work to picture, he uses an Avid
Mojo to send the video out to a 40”
LCD TV. For sound playback, he uses
a pair of KRK Rokit 5 near-field monitors.
O’Leary shares tracks and media via FTP with the series production company, Leftfield Pictures,
which has locations in both New
York and Los Angeles. O’Leary has
been working with Leftfield for
nearly six years on several different
shows, including American Restoration and Clash of the Ozarks. “They
sent me Alone last year and asked
if I wanted to do the project,” notes
O’Leary, who spent the first episode
of Alone (Season 2) working with the
producers in attendance. He worked
unsupervised on all the subsequent
episodes.
Typically, O’Leary spends three
days cleaning, editing, and mixing
each episode, and then sends the mix
to the producers for notes and final
approval. Stylistically, the producers
want “to keep the show sounding
natural. That’s really the main goal.
