Little (Alex R. Hibbert) and Kevin (Jaden Piner) in 'Moonlight'
ing his techniques, those of the big
boys, so to speak, of major motion
picture sound. I was meeting strings
of top-tier mixers around that time
and I make the decision that it was
time that I make the plunge and order an X3. There’s a whole Cantar
methodology that I appreciate and
I’m intrigued with. I nervously put
down my hard-earned money on a
pre-order.
Make or Break
You come to these risky points
in your career where you can make
it or break it, and I was at a ‘make
it’ space, because now I’m stepping
up another level very rapidly, and if
there’s any hesitation or any failure,
that;could;be;—;if;nothing;else,;it
could set me back years.
I received the unit and, while
I;was;not;the;most;proficient;X1;or
X2 user, maybe having some prior
knowledge made it easier for me to
understand the X3. I took to it immediately. I don’t know if everybody
does it, but I immediately read the
manual. You have to do a lot of your
own homework with anything like
this.
I started using it for real just
two;weeks;after;I;received;it…;and
remember,;this;was;early;firmware,
and in my experience, with other
manufacturers, that can be a death
sentence.
When;first;using;it;I;ran;wholly;Chris Giles' Cantar X3 setup for 'Moonlight'
